Hi,
I've just installed Visual C# .Net 2003 Standard onto my PC. The operating
system is XP professional. I've also loaded the MSDN libraries and
downloaded the Oct. 2003 version.
However, whenever I start visual Studio the dynamic help can not find the
server for any of the help entries. Nor will the help functionality work
from within VS.
I've tried to set the options to both external and internal help but nothing
seems to work.
For example it looks in the following but keeps coming up with server not
found.
ms-help://MS.VSCC.2003/MS.MSDNQTR.2003FEB.1033/vsintro7/html/vxurfSolutionExplorerDialog.htm
I tried pointing the default path in options to my local drive but that
didn't work either.
I also have a problem when I try to run the update from Help -> Check for
updates. The message that comes up keeps saying:
"Visual Studio .Net 2003 setup encountered errors while attempting to
download required files. Check your Web browser
configuration setttings and your connection hardware, and then try again."
However, I have no problems connecting to the internet as I am using a cable
modem. This is the only program having this problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
John

John,
Your MSDN issue is most likely a problem with Temporary Internet Files
under the user profile. Test the product under another account. If it
loads as expected, delete the Temporary Internet Files folder for the
corrupt user profile at C:\Documents and Settings\CorruptProfile\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files.
The second issue relates to a product bug and is covered in 836454 FIX: You
cannot check for updates in Visual Studio .NET
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=836454. There is a hotfix available, but
it is only available through a telephone support incident. Another option
that will save you some time on the phone is to just keep an eye out for
any new Service Packs at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/downloads/updates/. Service Pack 1 for
Visual Studio .NET 2003 is not available yet, but will encompass all
approved hotfixes released previously.
