Visual Studio will not accept valid serial number

The Visual Studio.Net 2003 installer accepted the serial number from my MSDN
Universal subscription (academic). But when I try to run it now the MS
Development Environment gives me the following error message then just quits
the IDE. "Please enter a valid product key to use this product - setup has
detected that the product key is missing or invalid. You will find this
25-character key on your Certificate of Authenticity or the yellow sticker on
the back of the CD case."

I have tried multiple times to "Register" the product but it always insists
that my numbers are invalid. I have even copied and pasted then from my MSDN
Product Keys page and it still will not accept them.

The yellow sticker on the back of the Visual Studio Ent. Arch 2003 CD case
is different but it is not accepted either. To install I was able to enter
the number from the MSDN Product Keys page. Why will it not accept my valid
number and how do I fix this? I have tried deleting the hyphens, etc. but
nothing works.

Help ?!

Not trying to argue with you here, but are you sure you're entering a key
for Visual Studio .NET 2003?
The reason I ask (as a MSDNAA administrator and a MSDN Universal
Subscription holder) is that I cannot find any mention of a key on the
subscribers' download site. On the CD's made from the ISO's I downloaded,
the key is already embedded in the product and grayed out. I don't get an
opportunity to enter a key.
The only key listed for Visual Studio that I found is on the page for
products that do not require activation, and that key is for Visual Studio
.NET 2002.
Are you installing from downloaded ISO's, the full install download, or from
subscription CD's?
I assume when you say Universal (academic) that you are referring to a
Universal subscription purchased at academic prices? It's possible that your
CD's are somehow different from mine, but I doubt it.

Hi Gregg,

Thank you for your post!

In your description, you mentioned that when you launched Visual Studio
.NET 2003, you received the message "please enter a valid product key to
use this product - setup has detected that the product key is missing or
invalid". If I have misunderstood, please don't hesitate to let me know..

In your description, it seems that it did not accept the product key you
entered. As I know, your Product ID number is a unique number generated
during the installation of the product. You could register for Visual
Studio .NET 2003 through the following link.

Registration for Visual Studio .NET
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/register/vsnet.aspx

Alternatively, you may also call our customer representative. My colleagues
will direct you to the proper department to register your product. Since
you are not able to determine why the product key is invalid, I would
suggest that you try to register by phone. My colleagues will walk you
through this step by step to ensure you properly register for Visual Studio
.NET 2003.

Here is the public link of our customer service phone number. You may refer
to it for more information.

If you have any concerns or new findings related to the problem, please
feel free to let me know.

Hello Gregg,

How is everything going? Have you try my colleague, Wendy's suggestion? If
you confirm you have put the right key but the product key is invalid,
please contact Microsoft customer service for a valid product key. If there
is any we can do for you, please feel free to post here and we will follow
up.

Thanks very much.
