VS2003 CDs on a DVD ?

I've put my VS2003 Professional CDs on a single DVD, following some documents
found on the Net.

And each time I try to install this version I get a weird issue. The
installation process always asks me for the CD. But that is really strange is
when I put the CD in the drive, the files are installed from the DVD (I've 2
drives). It is like the install want to see the CD but can install from the
DVD.

I've recently got a VS2003 Trial DVD from the JAOO conference and compared
with my own DVD and I didn't find any relevant idea to solve the problem.
I've checked
the setup.ini and setup\setup.sdb files from without any success.

Any idea ?

I think that's perfectly normal ;=)
That install package, the MSI file, has internal tables saying that some set
of files is in this cab on one CD, the next set on some other CD and so on.
Internally, it knows which parts are on which CDs. It wants to install from
the CDs, and it's a bit surprising it works at all.

So, can I replace my MSI file (I guess we are talking about the 80 MB msi on
the CD or DVD root) by the MSI of the trial DVD without any damage ?

Thanks.

Actually, in the readme section it tell how to copy the CDs to a network
share for network installation - you can follow these instructions and
create the installation point on your harddrive - when done, burn this
complete installation point (folder) to the DVD and your done, about 3GB in
total, includes the MSDN documentation.

Yeah, sure.

I was so naive to actually do this. DID NOT WORK!
Keeps asking for the CD2.
Go figure.
