VS2008 Is not working properly in XP-64, the splitters don't work, it locks
up after try to size panels or docking.
I'm think it's the latest updates.

Anyone else having these problems.

Thanks,
Schneider

Hello Schneider,

I assume that by "splitters", you mean Splitter Control in Windows Forms.
If I have misunderstood you, please let me know. Or you're talking about
splitters between the tool windows of Visual Studio UI?

In addition, I'm not sure about your mean with this sentence: "it locks up
after try to size panels or docking", could you please clarify? Could you
please also provide the detailed steps to reproduce this issue?

Please let me know the information above so that I can provide further
assistance on this problem. I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,
Feng Chen

Yes the splitters between the various tool windows.
The IDE freezes for about 10 seconds.
This happens whenever I try to dock a window or size one of the windows with
the splitters.
In fact I can't even dock the windows now.

The VS 2008 IDE runs like crap in XP-64 now, not sure whats going on.

Hello eschneider,

This symptom looks very strange. I tried to reproduce it on a machine with
Windows XP x64 and VS2008 installed. However, everything was fine on this
machine.

I'd like to provide the following troubleshooting tips for this issue:
1.You can first try resetting the Visual Studio setting, check out How to
reset your environment
settings(http://blogs.msdn.com/saraford/archive/2008/06/03/did-you-know-how-
to-reset-your-environment-settings-via-tools-import-export-settings-229.aspx
).
2.If you reboot the operating system to safe mode, do we have the problem?
This can help to isolate whether any other applications are interfering
with Visual Studio. In addition to safe mode, you can also try "clean boot
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353)".
3.If you create a new user account, do we have the problem? This can help
to isolate user profile corruption related causes.
4.If you disable Add-ns (e.g. "Tools" | "Add-in Manager") and run
"devenv.exe /safemode", do we still have the problem? This can eliminate
the possibility that third party Add-ins are causing problems.
5.If you create a new project, do we have the problem? Sometimes corrupted
project settings can cause problems. These are project specific.

Please let me know result of this suggestions, I look forward to your reply.

Feng Chen

Hello,
It is possible it is a machine dependant issue, just never had the problem
before yesterday (7/21/2008). Also I have noticed the problem only when my
project is loaded so far, when the project was not loaded this seemed fine.

I will see if I can reproduce the problem in other projects. It's possible
the project is causing the problem.

Did you have a project loaded?

Thanks,
Schneider

Hello Schneider,

Yes, I tested this issue after loading several kinds of projects including
C++, VB, C# and Asp.net. However, I cannot reproduce it.

Could you please try to post here the detailed steps to reproduce this
issue? What kind of project with the problem? Have you tried other kind of
projects?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks!
