My original question was going to be "Can we switch panes via the keyboard?"
which I answered myself (Yes, if you customize your menu bar--it's in the
Window section). However, as I was browsing the various commands under
Window, I found Next Pane, Next Split Pane, and Next Subpane. I'm curious as
to what they refer to. Anyone?
(For reference, I chose Next Split Pane as the command for moving between
panes in a text editor window and I was right on the money. So basically
what I want to know is what a Pane and Subpane are.)

I discovered that Alt+F6 was already mapped to Next Pane, so I tried it. It
cycled the focus between all the active tool windows. (Never bringing focus
back to the text editor, but that's what F7 is for....) I also found Alt+F7,
which is like Ctrl+Tab but only for the tool windows. I then mapped Next
Subpane to a key combo and tried it. Nothing happened, so I guess I don't
have anything open that has subpanes.
