It could be that those certain solutions are Windows apps. (that are created
as temporary projects until you explicitly save them).
The unload/edit feature is so you can edit the proj files in a solution.
I'm guessing that if the solution hasn't been saved to disk yet, then there
is nothing to edit.

Thanks Scott, but these are project files which have been around for a while
and you can edit them as XML files in Notepad or another copy of VS2008 for
example. Actually the problem only afflicts some projects in the solution and
the feature works OK for other projects in the same solution. Weird.
