Hi.
I'm having a problem where Visual Studio.Net 2003 gets "stuck"
compiling:
Preparing resources...
Updating references...
Performing main compilation...
(and never finishes)
I've tried cleaning out temp files, checking network permissions,
etc... but no luck.
Exiting and restarting: and things work fine. Sometimes I can go all
day without this problem. Sometimes it occurs in the first 30 minutes.
Thanks in advance

I have this same problem, only worse. This problem occurs all the time. Once
I exit the IDE, I can not rebuild without getting the exact same symptoms you
report. I have to re-create my project from scratch, copy over all my
sources, re-add all my references, and then my build works. I can edit, save,
etc., and still build. But, once I exit the IDE, the project will never
rebuild again.
An additional symptom is that my VB forms won't display in the IDE. They
show up as "An error occurred while loading the document. Fix the error, and
then try loading the document again. The error message follows: Unspecified
error".
The forms show up in the Project Explorer with the correct icon. I have all
the latest patches and service packs.
If anyone can help, I would sure appreciate it!
Thanks.

I finally found another user that has a "fix" for this situation. I tried it
and it worked for me (once). We'll see if it works long term.
This guy said to exit the IDE and delete everything in the bin folders of
your project. Then re-enter the IDE and it will compile, and your forms will
display properly in the form designer. I did it, and it worked. Hope it helps
you out.
Interestingly, his comment was made on July 24, 2003.

By the way, all of you are using Visual Source Safe?
I think that is a bad practice put the bin directory in the VSS.
