I have the code window in the left tab group and the design window in the
right tab group. If I am editing in the code window and I click on a control
or the form in the design window without first selecting the tab, it acts
like I double clicked and inserts an event into the code. Is there a settings
change that can prevent this?

Alan,

I don't believe there is a setting.  It is by design to auto-generate event
handlers when you click a UI element.  It also appears to be a bug in Visual
Studio.  I have noticed this behavior when switching control selection to
set properties.  One thing that has helped, believe it or not, is to Save
(CTRL+S) or Save All (CTRL+SHIFT+S) before clicking on the next design
element.

Hope this helps,

Steve
