I have both VS2003 and VS2005 installed on my machine.  I also have an
instance of SQL server 2005 developer edition (NETSDK) and an instance of SQL
Server Express edition (SQLExpress).  From VS2003, the Server explorer window
correctly shows my local machine and when I expand the node, it has a SQL
Servers node that when I expand shows both instances of SQL server.  In
VS2005, when I expand my machine name, there is NO node for SQL Servers.  The
last node is Services.  I can open (create) connections to both instances,
but why is there no reference to them under my machine name?
TIA,

Terry,

In the ToolStrip at the top of the Server Explorer tab, there is an icon
that looks like a database with a plus sign.  If you click that, you can add
a connection to a database.  Note this is not the same as SQL Server's
database explorer; the Visual Studio Server Explorer tab displays database
connections that you have created.

Hope this helps,

Steve
