Hi;

I want to make some of the pixels in an icon transparent so that whatever is
under that pixel is displayed.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply.

You can use "Erase Tool". Pixels painted over by Erase Tool will be
displayed as transparent.
Another way, you can click the Screen-Color selector or the Inverse-Color
selector and apply the screen or inverse color onto your image using a
drawing tool(Pencil, brush).

[Creating Transparent or Inverse Regions in Device Images ]

About what is screen or inverse color, you may reference the following
article.

[Colors Window ]

Hope this helps. If you still have anything unclear, please feel free to
update here. I'm glad to assist you.
Sincerely,
Wen Yuan

Hi;

I read both links but while they talked about transparent, they did not say
how to make a pixel transparent.

I tried using the erase tool but it is a large block and it cannot set
single pixels which I need as we have color around pixels we need transparent.

How can I set single pixels to be transparent? Is there a way to change the
size of the erase block?

Hi Dave,

You can set single pixel using the "Pencil" tool.  Choose the
"Screen-Color" and then paint your image with pencil.

1. Select "Color Selection Tool".
2. Choose "Screen-Color" in the colors window.
3. Select "Pencil Tool".
4. Set single pixel which you want to make it as transparent.

By the way, I'm afraid there is no option we can use to change the size of
the erase block.

If you still have any questions, please feel free to let me know. I'm glad
to assist you.
Have a great day,
Sincerely,
Wen Yuan

Hi;

I can't find a way for the pencil tool to select transparent as it's
"color." How do I do that?

Hi Dave,

Transparent is the special color on the selector. The "screen-color"
represents "transparent". Screen color will be displayed as transparent on
your ico file.
You can select "Pencil" tool and choose screen-color.

About what is Screen color, please have a look at
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/82cfdhe3(VS.80).aspx
[Colors Window]

1.Select "Pencil" tool.
2.Choose Screen Color.

Please let me know if you still have anything unclear.  I'm very glad to
assist you.
Have a great day,
Sincerely,
Wen Yuan
