Hello,

I'm working in Visual Studio 2005.  I am working with the Configuration
Manager.

Could someone please direct me to a web page
or explain to me what the exact differences/ramifications are of choosing:

Win32  vs.  Any CPU  vs.  Mixed Platforms   ????

[I started looking here and was surprised to find *nothing*.
ms-help://MS.VSCC.v80/MS.MSDN.v80/MS.VisualStudio.v80.en/dv_vsbuild/html/19be121c-148e-4ece-bbfc-d20b08cfc3f7.htm]

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Ann,

>Win32  vs.  Any CPU  vs.  Mixed Platforms

The Solution Platform dropdown just lets you to set the target platform you
want to compile your program to.

This will pass compiler switches through to the compiler that tell it how
to generate code. Specifically, it can allow you to choose between things
like Debug configuration and Release configuration, as well as between x86
and x64 or Itanium.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Gary Chang

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at

Hello again Gary,

Yes, I understand that the Solution Platform dropdown allows you to
configure the debug and release builds.  What *exactly* does each choice do?
Or better yet, where is a VS2005 help page that describes what *exactly* does
each choice do?

Trudging through VS2005 help, I found:

ms-help://MS.VSCC.v80/MS.MSDN.v80/MS.VisualStudio.v80.en/dv_cscomp/html/c290ff5e-47f4-4a85-9bb3-9c2525b0be04.htm

This page answered my questions.

Thanks.
