How to see VS2005 IDE Dev News with Proxy authentication

My current internet accessis via corporate proxy server that requires
authentication.

If I run Internet Explorer and navigate to any site, I am first challenged
for my credentials. The authentication demand is always explicit.

In VS2005, the IDE is unable to display any internet content. (This also
applies to the new MSDN library with its on-line content). The error message
I get from the Start page > Visual Studio Developer News is:

"The current news channel might not be valid or the Internet connection
might be unavailable. To chane the news channel, on the Tools menu click
Options, then expand Environment and click Startup."

Does anyone know how I can get VS.NET to allow me to supply the credentials?

Hi,

You could access the Internet Explorer options in the Visual Studio 2005's
Option/Environment/Web Browser property page, but there is no specific
proxy authentication setting for VS2005.

I am afraid you need to avoid the explicit proxy authentication while using
the VS2005's internal browser.

Thanks for your understanding!

Thanks for the confirmation. I have done a bit of googling and found a
product called Proxomitron (http://www.proxomitron.info/), which acts as a
local proxy server.

I configured Proxomitron to forward all requests to our corporate proxy
server(s)  with the required proxy authentication details set . This allows
the proxy authentication to be automatic.

As a result, online content now works with Visual Studio and Document
Explorer!

This, I think is an important issue to be fixed, asap.

My company too is using a proxy with explicit authenticatiion to access the Internet and the fact to have the authentication error each time you try to use the online help in VS2005 is very annoying.

Thanks for the reply
