Smart Phone Applications & Toolbox Controls

Hi. I'm just starting to use VS.NET 2005 to create Smart Phone applications.
As I try to work my way through the sample "Walk-throughs," I create a new
Smartphone 2003 project and then it tells me to drag a Button control onto
the form. Well there IS NOT BUTTON control in the toolbox. The toolbox
section headings all say things like "All Device Controls v1," "Common Device
Controls v1," etc. Am I missing something? Is there something wrong with my
configuration?

Would you please tell us which Walk-throughs do you follow with?

I tested with a simple MFC dialog-based Smartphone 2003 application, the
Button control just exists in the Toolbox\Dialog Editor.

Thanks!

Regardless of which walk-through, the Button control simply doesn't show up
in the toolbox when I create a "C# -> Smart Device -> Smartphone 2003 ->
Device Application (1.0)" project. I'm mainly trying to understand where that
control is and why it doesn't show up automatically for you as it does for
me. As a reminer, I am using VS.NET 2005 release edition (all version
information included below...)

Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
Version 8.0.50727.42  (RTM.050727-4200)
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 2.0.50727

Installed Edition: Professional

Microsoft Visual C# 2005   77626-009-0000007-41559
Microsoft Visual C# 2005

Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005   77626-009-0000007-41559
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005

This really matters, it appears that walkthrough is targeting at a
different platform (non-Smartphone 2003).

Based on my experience, the Compact Framework1.1(corresponding to the
managed Smartphone 2003 application) doesn't provide a button control to
the Smartphone 2003 application, for the reason of most smartphone devices
do not have the touch screen.

The managed Smartphone 2003 application is unlike the MFC Smartphone 2003
device application, whose button control is provided by the MFC library,
not from Compact Framework1.1.

Thanks for your understanding!

Hi. You're right that, for example, my Smart Phone 2003 has a little
joy-stick thing but no stylus. Yet, I'm confused about this: If I want to
have an interface where the user can move between "hot-spots" (such as a text
link, a button, etc.) and then press the center button to effectively execute
a "click," how is one supposed to do this in a Smartphone 2003 .NET
application?

I think there must have a workaround to this scenario, but I am not an
experienced mobile device developer, I am afraid I cannot be of more help
help. I suggest you can ask this in a more appropriate newsgroup or MSDN
forum, you'd get better and quicker help there:

microsoft.public.cs.mobiledevices
microsoft.public.smartphone.developer
