When i try to open the solution, by clicking on it, which contains 1 web
project and other projects, when it starts to load the web project, the
whole ide closes down. when i try to open just the web project by clicking
on it, the same thing happens. when i open vs.net then go to open project, i
get an error similiar to the following which the help button goes to this
reference:
There was a failure while initializing the <name> source-control provider.
This message is displayed when a source control operation cannot be
completed and Visual Studio cannot determine the precise cause of the error.
Things to check:
a.. Security settings Do you have sufficient access rights to open a
source control database?
b.. Network connectivity Are you still connected to the network? Is the
source control server available on the network?
c.. Source control integration Have you completely and correctly
installed the named source control provider?

This only happens on this one solution. i have 2 other solutions with web
projects taht are very similar to this one that work fine. One thing is i am
using PVCS and PVCS trackerlink for source control and bug tracking (i know
they are horrible!!!). I don't know why one works and the others don't,
maybe sp2 added some restrictive permissions? I know you aren't someone who
knows about trackerlink, but take a guess: when i disable trackerlink
integration with the pvcs source control, the file opens fine.
any clue what i can do to make it work or figure out whats going wrong?
filemon?

Since you can open another web project well in the VS.NET 2003 IDE, It
appears to be the Windows XP SP2 isn't compatible with your source control
system's setting.
I have also checked our internal database for this issue and only find the
case that cannot create a web project in VS2003 after upgraded to the
Windows XP SP2, but it isn't similar to your problem. So in this scenario I
think it is a good idea to use the filemon to monitor your system and
consult some PVCS tech support or forum, such as:
