Visual studio enumerates all directories

When I open Visual Studio .Net IDE (devenv with no additional params), the
exe tries to open all directories on all projects that are on my "Existing
project list".

The reason I am asking is that I noticed that VS.NET became slow recently in
starting up because I have some existing project on remote network drives and
I believe the slowness is caused due to it trying to open these remote
directories on startup.

I know it is trying to open these directories by using FileMon from
SysInternals.

Why does it do this?

It is because the VS.NET IDE need to update its "Existing project" list at
the Startup, and this behavior is by design.

Thanks!
