Project not recompiled after changes in embeded resource

Hi,
I use VS.Net 2003/C#.

In my project I have a file which I need to include as embeded resource.
So far, so good. The file is added to the project, and in the
properties/build action is set as such. It works ok.

The problem is, that if I change something in that file, save it and
then invoke Build on the project, the project is not rebuild. It says
that project is up to date. I have to invoke Rebuild, but it will
rebuild all referenced projects as well, which is not what I want.

Is there any setting which I have to check, or this is a bug?

Cheers
Sunny

Hi Sunny,

Do you make sure that the VS.NET will rebuild all referenced projects,
sometimes it just checks the referenced projects and skip the building
process...

Thanks!

Hi Gary,

It happens with only one project as well. It will not build it, if you
change only the file marked as embeded resource. You have to invoke
rebuild in order to get the changes, otherwise it says that the project
is up to date. It seems that when deciding if the project should be
build, it does not check the timestamp of the embeded resources.

Steps to reproduce: Create a new project, and add some file as embeded
recourse. Build. Then change only the embeded recourse file. Try to
build (not rebuild). It will say that project is up to date and will not
build.

Hi Sunny,

How do you modify the resource file, within the IDE or outside the IDE?

Thanks!

Hi Gary,
thanks for looking into this.

The resource file is a simple XML file. I do edit it in IDE.

To reproduce:

Start  a new project.
Add a new XML file. Fill in some data in it.
Change the properties of that file from "Content" to "Embeded resource"
"Rebuild" the project.
Open the xml file again in the IDE. Edit something and save.
Select "build" on the project. It reports "Project is up to date" and is
not build.

Hi Sunny,

Our product team members confirm this is an issue(by design) in the VS.NET
2003, and they will take care of it in the VS.NET 2005(Whidbey). However
for the current version of VS.NET(2003), we don't have a workaround to
resolved it, sorry for the inconvenience it brings to your development
work.

Thanks for your understanding!
