I have a solution that seems to be corrupted and I don't know what caused it
and I don't know of a way to resolve the problem.

If I open the solution from VSS or just try to open the solution it gets
hung on "Contacting server to open Web project xxxx". This solution has about
10 projects in it and one of them is a web service project which seems to
cause the load of the solution to hang. Any ideas on how best to proceed?

Thank you.

I had the exact problem you describe below.  I was unable to open any web
project or create a new web project.  I contacted Microsoft Tech Support for
assistance.  In my case the problem was caused by Cingular Communications
Manager software that I had loaded on my laptop.  The Microsoft support
technician forwarded an email with this information:

"We have observed that bmwebcnfg.exe and bmnet.dll causes aspx pages to hang
and we are not able to create or open any web applications.

- Uninstallation of the software like Cingular Conections Manager and PCS
Connections Manager would take care of the bmwebcnfg.exe

- We observed that bmnet.dll was getting loaded as part of Inetinfo.exe and
was
causing the hang.

I uninstalled the Cingular software and it resolved the problem immediately.
