I would recommend that you put the RTM DVD in your drive and let it
determine what needs to be uninstalled and guide you. I did that on one
machine with completely satisfactory results. The RTM popped up a dialog
indicating that some uninstalls were necessary and provided a link to an
instruction page giving a list of things to uninstall and the order in which
to proceed. After following the instructions VS 2005 installed fine.
OTOH, on a second machine where I had installed pre-release stuff and
uninstalled it myself (I'm a dumba**), I'm having a heck of a time. I may
well end up wiping the drive and reinstalling the OS to get VS 2005
installed.
