I was always under the impression that you get a perpetual license to use
the tools shipped with an MSDN subscription but you only receive updates
during the lifetime of the subscription.

I'm reading
http://www.howtoselectguides.com/Guides/VisualStudio2005/tabid/68/Default.aspx
that says (under "Licensing") the license to use VS.NET expires with the
subscription if you fail to renew.  Is this a new clause in licensing or is
this a mistak in their summary?

Thanks,
Shawn

"When a subscription expires, do the licenses terminate or are they
still valid?

MSDN Subscriptions have a perpetual license, so subscribers can still
use the products received with their MSDN Subscription after their
subscription has expired."

Okay, thats what I thought.  So the review in the guide is incorrect then.

Thanks,
Shawn

Hi Shawn,

The article might be referring to the "Action Pack" subscriptions for
Microsoft Certified Partners. My understanding of that program is that the
license is good for a year and after that you have to discontinue using the
software unless you resubscribe.
