Building a new web app with VS.NET 2003

Hi, I'm trying to build a new web app and store it on a web server.  My
default web server connection access method is "File Share".

I get the message "Unable to create Web project '<projectname>'.  The UNC
Share '\\<myurl>\wwwroot$\<projectname>' does not exist or you do not have
access.

I've attempted to follow the instructions set forth in MSKB Article 817264.
This does not seem to help.

What I'm really confused about, I guess, is what to do on IIS 6.0 to make it
work.  I have a C:\INETPUB directory, and below that I have folders for
Client1, Client2, Client3, etc.

I'm wanting to set up a new web app for Client4.  I've created a directory
C:\INETPUB\Client4 and I've set up a web site in IIS 6.0 that points to that
directory.  What else do I need to do to use VS.NET to create a web app in
that location?

(I can't create a web site on my local machine because I don't have XP
Pro...only XP Home).

I'm sure this seems like a really dumb question, but it's my first foray
into .NET and I'm very confused.  Appreciation is expressed in advance for
your anticipated tolerance and patience of/with me as I learn.

First, I wouldn't set up anything in C:\InetPub.  That is the directory
where IIS keeps all its software files.  If you really want to keep your
files within the Web Server's folder structure, you should create the folder
in C:\InetPub\wwwRoot.

To create the directory and the project, don't do anything ahead of time.
Just open VS .NET and choose "New Project".  When asked for a server
location for the project, just type the name of the server followed by a
forward slash and the name of the project - - i.e.
http://theDevelopmentServerName/theProjectName.

VS .NET may/may not prompt you for user and password information (if that
server requires it), but that's it.  VS .NET will take care of everything
else for you.  You do not need to create any directories yourself.

was trying to do the same thing as you did. I have a 2003server having 4
Websites on it apart from the default website.

My directory structure is
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Client1
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Client2
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Client3
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Client4

I want to create a web application from my laptop using VS.net 2003 on the
above server.
I have Installed VS.net Server Components on the server but i don't know for
some reason i am getting the following error

The UNC share does not exist or you do not have access
Unable to create Web project '<project name>'. The UNC share '\\<server
name\wwwroot$\<project name>' does not exist or you do not have access. For
more information

I hope you found a solution for your requirement please help me on this.
