Wierdness with the "open an existing project" MRU list

I've noticed that with Visual Studio 2003, it does not update the modified
date in the "open an existing project" most recently used list in the same
manner that it did with 2002 (We've recently moved development to 2003).

It adds projects to the list, but it doesn't update the most recently
accessed date/time on it, which is a tad annoying. Am I just being a muppet
and not spotting an obvious setting or something?

I see this behavior for 3 years already and didn't find any settings.
Try to select solution icon and click "Save". It seems to me that date stamp
is not updated unless you change something in the solution like adding
projects. Usually when I select icon the timestamp is updated.
Good luck.

Thanks for the work around; and thanks for confirming that I'm not missing
something blindingly obvious.

It's not something I'd noticed previously, as in past roles where I'd been
using VS2003 I'd been working on a small set of solutions.

Hi Rowland,

yes, the VS2003 is different from the VS2002 in this point. In VS2002, when
you modify a project file, its corresponding solution files will be updated
as well. But the same thing will not happen in VS2003 unless you manipulate
the solution configuration directly, such as the workaround Shimon
suggested.

Such behavior is by design in VS2003, however we have already realize this
inconvenience to the developers who get used to the VS2002's environment,
and we will apply a new policy in VS2005, when you open a solution in the
VS2005 IDE, it will be set to top of the MRU list even without any changes
to its project files.

Thanks for your understanding!

Best regards,

Gary Chang
