This isn't a technical questing but I didn't know where else to ask. I'm in
the market for a new laptop and was thinking about getting a Tablet PC. I
wanted to hear from any developers that use the Tablet PC to actual develop
on and find out if there are any advantages or disadvantages. Thanks in
advance...

I have been using Tablet PC and did some (limited) development on it, but I
think for active development I would prefer computer with faster CPU, faster
disk, bigger screen and full keyboard. I have to say though, that my tablet
only has 1.33GHz CPU, and 12" 1024x768 screen. You can probably get Toshiba
with 1400x1050 resolution, but screen is still 12" and keyboard is tad
small.
If I had to work on the laptop daily, I would prefer at least 14"-15" screen
with 1600x1200, full size keyboard and faster CPU.
Thanks

Its one thing developing applications for Tablet PC's but actually
developing applications ON one without a decent keyboard, monitor and
mouse sounds painfully slow to me :-)
Using the Tablet PC for testing would however be a good idea !
BTW, Can you charge your customers 5 to 10 times the price for your
extra effort???
Kind Regards,

If you are developing on a Tablet PC make sure you have the latest
tablets featuring Intel's sporty Pentium-M chip.
As for actually "using" a tablet, imho it is a pita. The Tablet PC is a
technology that has been glued onto windows with virtually no effort
being made to research how one would actually uses the tablet pc. The
handwriting recognition has made no progress and is completely
worthless. And even if it was extremely accurate actually using
handwriting in applications is still a hack as one seems to spend most
of one's time switching from the application to the window that one has
to draw on.
I would never develop on a tablet unless it had a regular monitor,
keyboard and mouse attached because using it as a tablet just is a
reality, that for me, MS has completely and utterly failed to create.
This was extremely to the contrary of what I originally thought, as up
until I actually attempted to use the Tablet I thought that it would be
the best thing that had happened to mobile computing. Sadly it is a
technology that may very well have 3-5 more years before the tablet's
practicality exceeds beyond pressing a button with a pen on some
internal corporation application used for inventory or etc.
