I have a fully patched XP Pro system (SP2 and later) and would like to
install VS.Net 2003.

The VS.Net installation pointed to a MS page that stated that I must not
install SP2 before VS.Net. It is not possible to uninstall SP2 and a restore
to prior SP2 is not possible.

So how do I get VS.Net 2003 onto my system?

I have installed VS.NET 2003 after Windows XP SP2 at least a couple of times
without problems.

The right order is:

- Windows XP
- Add IIS from Windows Components (IIS is not installed by default)
- SP2
- VS.NET 2003

So, what MS page are you referring to?

Agreed.

And I see that Microsoft will eventally ship WinXP CDs with SP2 included. If
there will be problem installing VS.NET after SP2, I don't think the CD will
provide a way to remove it. Just like you won't have way to remove SP1 now.
This will create trouble.

The most common on installing SP2 over a computer with VS.NET is you may not
be able to debug later. But there is already a KB article addressing how to
fix it and should not cause much problem.

I have XP SP2 installed as well, and one problem I'm having is everytime I
open up the help pages, I have to click on the yellow bar/band at the top to
display the proper format.  How can I get rid of that extra step?

Thanks.

CD said go to ....
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/security

which states:

" Windows XP
Download and save the critical updates and Service Pack 2 available from
the    Windows XP Downloads page.
Caution: Do not install the updates or Service Pack 2 now. Visual Studio
.NET setup will indicate when to manually install these updates.
Close this browser window, return to the Visual Studio .NET setup process,
and   then proceed to the next step. "

Since I already have SP2 on the machine I cannot follow the instruction :(

Hi,

I don?t know why that page says that, because certainly most users will have
SP2 installed before installing VS.NET...I think that you can ignore it.
