'Library not registsred' on new project

Good Evening Ladis and Gentlemen,

I have what seems to be an insurmountable problem.

I am desparate to find an answer, is there anyone who can
help please.

I am a Delphi/Java/XML developer and just got a good look
at Visual Stuio and C#. It looks absolutely magic, and I
want to try it but cannot get it to work.

Software: Visual studio .NET 2003 enterprise architect,
from my MSDN universal disks.

Configuration: Window 2000 Pro (SP4 with all security
updates applied up to yesterday 25-Nov-03)
IE6.0 With all security updates applied.
2.5GHz P4. Plenty of disk, 1Gb Ram.

Problem: Whenever I try to create a new project I get the
error: 'Library not registered' (C# console app and C#
windows app). I tried several C# project types, all failed
in some way or another, some more spectacularly than
others, usually with 'Library not registered'.

Also the 'Library not registered' dialog does not say
which library is not registered (Come on guys, give me a
clue!).

As it stands, the software is useless to me. We have 2
MSDN licenses in the office and the other guy has had only
minor problems, nothing like this (his system is similar
to mine).

I am totally stuck and about to walk away from Visual
Studio, not to mention seriously disgusted (polite word!)
that I can't get this stuff to work.

What I have done? or not done?

Please can you read the items below to see what I have or
have not done, as I believe that I have done all that I
can do:

1) I did an install with all components enabled.
2) Got 'Library not registered'
3) Tried a 'Repair' but got the same error.
4) De-installed
5) Installed with all components enabled.
6) Got the same error.
7) Found an article that recommended running regsvr32 on
csproj.dll, did that, but it made no difference.
8) Found MS knowledge base article 823244 this recommended
a re-install.
9) De-Installed.
10) Re-installed only  Visual C#.NET, Visual C++.NET,
Visual Studio analyzer, MS application centre test. (No
Crystal reports or any other languages).
11) Got the same error.
12) Found MS knowledge base article 268553, this is
related to Crystal reports, but what the heck.... I
updated my registry anyway.
13) Got the same error. Had a good cuss!
14) De-Installed, and had a think.
15) Disabled all anti virus software (Nortons 2002) and re-
installed as step 10). The installer window said there
were no errors, I checked the log file and no errors were
reported.
16) Got the same error when I tried to create a new
project.
17) Posted this message and pondered if rebuilding my
entire PC was what it needs.

Thank you in advance, I am now going to bed (it's evening
in Australia and I am feeling my age).

It may take time for me to reply to any postings, I am not
rude, it's just that I only get to check my mail at night.

Andrew Bools.

Hi Andrew,
I had a similar problem a while back.  BTW I use to be a
Delphi developer; there are many Delphi IDE things that I
really miss.  VS.NET is a good step forward, but still has
some catching up to do.  I can't wait to check out
Borland's C# builder.

Anyway,  I had VS Enterprise Architect on my machine
(very similar to yours).  I decided to try out a trial of
the latest version of Delphi.  After installing Delphi, I
noticed small quirky problems with VS.  So, I uninstalled
it and installed it again.  Now I was getting errors
similar to yours.

I finally uninstalled Delphi, VS.NET, VS 6 and all .NET
framework versions.  Just to be safe, I rebooted after
each uninstall.  Then I went back to work installing
everything except Delphi.  This seemed to do the trick.

I love Delphi, but I just couldn't afford to have it
mess up my main development machine.  I would suggest that
maybe you try another machine?

HTH,
Brian McCool

Weird.  I have Visual Studio .NET 2003 and Delphi 6.0 both installed on my
laptop running in perfect harmony.

I've encountered this problem a few times and generally it has because the
Windows Scripting Host (WSH) runtime has become corrupted.  Try
reinstalling the windows scripting host
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.as
p).

If that doesn't work try this KB article Q823244 -

Error Message When You Start a New Project

Good Evening Gentlemen,

I had finger/brain trouble and posted this to a new
thread, sorry, it's been a rough day (hay fever).

Thanks for your posts.

You were correct Robert, when I installed the Windows
Scripting Host, my problem went away.

I did think Brian, of installing it on my childrens
machine, but they use that for games and I would be
mightily unpopular if they lost the opportunity to commit
virtual murder and mayhem.

Thank you all, from the little I have seen so far VS.NET
looks like a real winner.

Much as I love Delphi, I suspect that it now has a serious
contender.

Brian, Robert and Kerry, if you ever get to Adelaide in
South Australia, I would welcome the chance to have a beer
(or whatever) with you, email me if you do, I am always
free for a feed and a good talk. (Does the incitement to
food and drink contravene the acceptable use of this
newsgroup? I hope not.)

Have a safe and happy Christmas, Andrew.

Sweet.  Great to hear that your problem is solved.

You got it mate.  Beer is good!  Now if I could just talk my wife into letting
me take a flight to the Outback.  :)
