I assume you've read "Inside Visual Studio.NET 2003"? As you can see from
it's name it contains no references to the VS 2005 SDK (and, by choice, not
even the old VSIP SDK). Still, it contains a good reference to the
extensibility model.
IIRC an update for VS.NET 2005 is in progress (but not readily available?).

AFAIK, no. The only chance is the second edition of the book "Working with
Visual Studio 2005" (formerly "Inside Visual Studio .NET 2003") by Craig
Skibo and others and he told me that they planned to add some chapter about
VSIP. I'm not sure if they did, and in any case, alas, the book is not on
sale, you can get it only purchasing a package box of VS 2005 Professional
Edition or registering your MSDN copy.

Where can I register my MSDN copy? Didn't find anything.
Thanks

I found that when I registered my MSDN copy I got information about
obtaining a different, completely unrelated book.
I'd love to get hold of a copy of this new book if anyone knows of another
method to do that!!!

I just checked again and the book in question has now been posted on the
registration portal!!! So it looks like MSDN subscribers can finally get a
copy :-)
It wasn't there a couple of weeks ago when I looked!

Acknowledged, that book was not there some days ago (only the book about
Team System) but I did write to the author to put it there...
For all:
1) Registering for MSDN Subscriber downloads does NOT register your VS 2005
copy.
2) The benefits of registration (including the book) are described at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/regbenefits/
3) To register the VS 2005 copy, click the Help \ Register Product menu and
follow the steps.
4) The book does NOT include new chapters about the VS 2005 SDK

If I've got access to MSDN subscriber downloads (Team System Developer) -
shouldn't I already be considered registered? I can't find anything about
the book after logging in - or is this completely unrelated ...

You can't get it through MSDN subscriber downloads, its a Microsoft Press
book (which you can't buy, work that on out!). Now I've found that it has
finally been posted to where it should have been posted, its worth telling
you this:
1. Start MSDN version of VS and click on 'register product' in the file
menu.
2. Go through all that stuff.
3. You'll get an email from MS pointing you to the registration benifits
sitel.
4. Go there and login using passport.
5. The book is now at the top of the list of 'benifits' (3Mb PDF).
At least now its worth the hassle of all this. When I orginally tried I
ended up at a dead end with no book!!!
