I have a web service that works fine without SSL and trying to enable SSL and require client certificates. I am currently receiving a 403: Access Forbidden error. I was receiving a 403: Access denied message until I started passing a client certificate. I am able to open the asmx file in IE choosing the same certificate. If your calling application is an ASP.NET app, you might be experiencing the following problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;817854&sd=tech This will be fixed in the upcoming .NET Framework 1.1 SP1.
