Interopability: WSE 1 to WSE 2 to WSE 3 to Indigo

Please correct me if I'm wrong in any of my assumptions below:

According to the Microsoft site, WSE 1 and WSE 2 can't talk to each other.
It seems that this is because WSE 1 uses WS-Routing whereas WSE 2 uses
WS-Addressing.

In terms of interopability between WSE  in general and Indigo, Don Box says
that Indigo will be wire compatible with WSE 3 since both products could be
released at relatively the same time.  So I guess the question is, what are
the chances that WSE 2 products can interop with WSE 3 products?

Here are my thoughts:  It seems that WS-Addressing is one of the most
important standards under WSE.  The fact that WSE 2 implements a near final
version of WS-Addressing seems to suggest that WSE 2 and WSE 3 should be
able to interop.

Any thoughts/corrections/flames?
Thanks,
-Mike

The interop issues between WSE1 and WSE2 goes slightly deeper than the
differences between WS-Routing and WS-Addresing.

WS-Security has some changes as well in WSE2.0 as it implements the OASIS
namespace plus some...WS-Trust and WS-SecureConversations are not in
WSE1.0...NOT Forgetting WSE2.0 has its own support for the TCP Transport
mechanisms...etc etc

I think WSE3.0 will stop supporting DIME and SOAP Attachments as well, so
there should be some issues of backward compatibility once it releases...

I didn't think that WSE2 (or 3 for that matter) does/will support SwA ??

The consensus view appears to be that WSE3 will support MTOM/XOP ?

Yes, you are right. I am referring to DIME here.

And yes, it looks like MTOM is on the cards for WSE3.0

Thanks,

What's MTOM/XOP all about?  I'm not familiar with them.
