I know these aren't necessarily mutually exclusive, but I want to evaluate
them against each other as web service security solutions. I'm pretty
familiar with WSE 3.0, but I'm not a networking guy. Can someone discuss the
advantages or disadvantages of using WSE 3.0 vs. VPNs as a security solution?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

the only disadvantage that I see is that your web service call will be
slower because of the encryption process. Given that your vpn connection is
crypted of course.
But if this is the point of the exercise, this should not be an issue.
One more though. You need to register every single user of the VPN and
provide them with username and password. For Internet users that can be very
inappropriate.
