Last night I was queried to install an update for MS Anti Spyware (BETA) on
on of my machines at home. I installed the update, no apparent issues. This
morning I turned on another machine and was not prompted to install an
update. Note that they both had same rev on them. Out of curiosity I started
the application and tried to updat manually and MS site said no updates were
available. This made me wonder if the beta program has already been
hacked/breeched. On arrival to work a colleague was prompted to install an
update on his machine, he installed it and can no longer boot his machine. I
chose not to install the update on my business laptop until I know that it is
a valid update. After refusing that update, I hit the update button in the
Antispyware program and was again told that they're are no new updates.
Was there a legitimate update released or were my coworker and my home
machine hacked?

I did the update today as my Anti-Spyware told me the same thing on my
one desktop PC... so I updated it.

Now when I rebooted after the install, my machine stops at the typical
XP login window, locks the system and the drive light stays constantly
on --- mouse doesn't move - even CAPS lock is dead.

Went to a system restore point from yesterday... went to login and BOOM
- system locks up again.  Looks like I'm scanning this system with a
Bart PE boot disk and Ad Aware, McAfee.. blah blah blah... cause it's
hosed!

What gives -anyone know what the problem is?

Not that this has anything to do with J#.net but I installed the update on
win 2000 and have no issues.

I have two machines from the same office with a similar problem. After Beta updates, they can no longer get on the Internat via IE. They can send and recieve mail though. ???? They also lock up from time to time and will not power off at all. No joy with any of the standard AS/AV software.

If anyone figures it out please lt me know!

PS - eTrust AV seems to be blocked from updates too.
