When I click on a jpeg or bitmap file while browsing files on my computer
the system show shows "Details" to the left.  I am assuming this data is
derived from the file using some object which is most likely registered in
the registry.

Could someone give me a general idea of how and or a link to an example?

Never mind I found it, was searching based on the wrong phrase...
