Hello all. I have finally bitten the bullet and seriously started to learn
VB.NET. I have the developement enviromnent installed and integrated my
latest MSDN dated July 2005. If someone is thru with a later version ( say
Oct 2006, Jan 2007 or so ) and would let me have it, I will gladly pay
shipping and handling cost for it. Thanks in advance, Jim Richards

You might consider using MSDN online wich has the same information and more
as the installable version

in fact it is so good that i don`t even bother to install the MSDN DVD  ,
only requirment is a good stable internet connection

Thank you Michael for the link (I added it to my favorites) to the MSDN.
This poses a problem for me in that you know which topic to lookup to get
help but I need it integrated with my IDE so that I can press F1 and it will
find the appropriate help. Jim

I always use it except for the case when I am looking up an URI for a
certain documentation page because loading the Web-based version is
incredibly slow.

Absolutely! Every click takes forever...

Well here on my Orange 20 Mbit connection it is acceptable , it only takes a
few seconds also downloading from CONXION ( file servers from MS ) is verry
fast here aprox 10 mbit

To Cor :

Get rid of your Planet account Cor,  they are ripping you off !    i only
pay 30 euros a month for a 20 mbit downstream and 1 mbit upstream connection
inclusive free telephony   , compared to 54 ,95 ADSL comfort from Planet
with 6 Mbit down and 764 kb UP   and a extra line fee to KPN of 18 ,-- euros
a month and the standard telephony costs .

Maybe we are just lucky here in the Netherlands , cause we have a verry good
internet infrastructure

*LOL* I upgraded to a fast 2Mbit connection recently. No volume limit
anymore, less costs, doubled speed (1Mbit before), so I am very happy with
it. Not long ago 56K modem.

I guess you are living at the upper end but that's by far not the standard.

BTW, the page is really remarkably slow compared to others.

Michel,

I know however it are forever the email accounts and webserver that are
binding.

But in my idea should a website even perform on 64Kb as you think that we
are in the BeNeLux in a favour situation (in this case) because of our short
distances (And one of the main nodes in Amsterdam).

That is why i own my personal domain  so i can hop to the most interesting
provider without these problems
i hold everything in my own hands domain control and e mail forwarding at
Namezero , web hosting at Brinkster

i only need my provider to get on the web and to act a.s passthrough gate
this  saved me hundreds of euro`s already and i own a impressive connection
against minimal costs

The huge data aware web applications that i wrote in the past,  did work on
modem connections however you needed a lot of  patience :-) so in the end we
gave up and required at least a double ISDN connection ( 128 Kb / sec )
because of the rich interface this was in fact a design choice ( required
rich interface , required a higher bandwidth )   ,  i guess the standard now
at MS is a medium broadband connection

I also wonder how long it would take to download MSDN on a low level
connection , we have( company i work for )  a MSDN universal subscription
and receive it  also by DVD wich we do not bother to install  as we use the
online version .   i really thought that broadband was now everywhere
afordable as it also seems to be the standard with Windows update  well i am
really sorry for one of you who needs to reinstall Windows XP pre SP2 and
has no media for the updates :-)

even from my side this takes at least half an hour extra installation time

Michel  ;-)

Herfried,

I can use some company from an MVP as I tell that on certain places at
Microsoft.
