processor.

Ivan,

There are only very few processors which have serialnumbers, PIII by
instance not the P4. Therefore is it probably not such a good idea to use
that.

Just my thought,

Ivan,

In fact there is no good solution, the Mac-address from a network-adapter
reaches it the most, however that as well has not everybody in his computer.

As well can it cost you clients, because hardware is often broken at a time
it should not be, has to be changed and than the vendor of the program with
this kind of protections is not reachable.

Marcello,

That does not help if there is no serialnumber

hi Cor,
thanks for your clarification :-) ...i have simply answered to an request
specific! I do not have myself sure to be worried if the used technique, in
some circumstance, does not work! all it depends on the creativity of the
programmer ;-)

...it would have been more important to signal that WMI works well only with
winXP :-o

best regards,
Marcello

Are you sure of that.

Namespace: System.Management
Platforms: Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows
2000, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2003
family

Assembly: System.Management (in System.Management.dll)

dear Cor,
thanks still for your contribution :-) ...enough not to adhere itself to
what it is written into msdn... it must also try!

for Win9x/2000 you must be to install the wmi sdk :-o ...while with WinXP it
is pre-installed ;-)

...it is always the "programmer" that must make the check and see if the WMI
sdk it is installed! ...they make all? :-/

You could use the machine's SID instead of the processor ID, which is not
always available:

Hi,

Like Cor stated not every cpu has an ID.  Since you do not want to
redist wmi I would use the windows serial number which is stored in the
registry.
