Hi,
   Is there any way to find out if the file name is really a folder or a
file?

You could use the FileInfo class:

FileInfo fi = new FileInfo(somepath);
if (FileAttributes.Directory == (fi.Attributes &
FileAttributes.Directory))
  Console.WriteLine("Directory");
else
  Console.WriteLine("File");
