Trying to install .NET Framework SDK 2.0 Beta 2, we are getting an error that
reports

Error creating process <...install.exe>.  Reason: INNT\system32\advpack.dll.

(This is on Win2K server with all latest patches installed).

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Just tried installing on Windows XP Pro with latest service packs.   Same
problem.

It looks like the 2.0 SDK Beta 2 installation is buggy!

Hmmm....

Willy.

Extracting the files by running dotnetfx /C and then invoking the setup
manually helps.

If you encounter problems afterwards you can try this: Change the
environment variables TEMP and TMP to a directory that is not under
Documents and Settings. On my machine that worked.

I just had this problem and trawled google/microsoft for a solution. None
found. However, I fixed the problem by manually extracting the files from
the dotnetfx.exe file and then manually running the "install.exe" file. Hope
it works for you.

I had the same problem too. Impossible to install any software on one o
the five
machines of my office. Upgrades from Microsoft, HP, and othe
downloaded and
executable files (.exe) cannot be installed and i had the sam
message:
"Error creating process <....exe>. Reason
c:\windows\system32\advpack.dll"
No way to resolve the broblem, no solution from Microsoft, a lot o
confusion on the
net. I lost many hours trying any metod but i had no results.
Finally i tried starting in safe mode and as administrator. All wen
ok.
I restarted in normal mode, newly as Administrator and all th
installations functioned.
Now i have had no time to understand why and when this problem happene
or what
prviously installed program caused the error but i 'll try again i
this weekend.
This is not a solution but only a trik to bypass the error

RE Error creating process <....exe>. Reason
c:\windows\system32\advpack.dll

I'm currently having the same.  Just tried to manually install Offic
2003 SP2 and got the error.  Thought it was a fluke with SP2.  But no
see nothing will install.  However, this problem seems to hav
coincided with an event that occurred the other day.  I was navigatin
the web and came across a some files that landed in my Administrato
Temp area in docs and settings. I took the entire “temp” file and move
it an external jump drive and then merely recreated a “temp” file in th
Doc/settings local settings folder.  That is when the problems began.

Update this after further research.

Any suggestions email me

More to this.  Point here is that I don't think the files I wanted t
move had anything to do with it.  I think there was something going o
with moving the "Temp" folder itself

Hello (new here):
Good pointer.  I too am having the same problem with Windows XP 32bit
so I extracted all of the files into a folder and looked at the .ini
file.  Here is what I discovered:
[Setup]
ProductName=Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (x64)
ProductMsi=netfx.msi
ProductRegKey=SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v2.0.50727
ProductRegValue=OCM
ProductSupportURL=http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=45396
DefaultDirInstallToken=URTInstallPath.3643236F_FC70_11D3_A536_0090278A1BB8
SupportWin9X=0
MinNTVersion=5.0
CheckAdminRights=1
ShowFeatureOptions=0
ShowDestinationFolder=0
LogFilePrefix=dd_netfx20
VerboseLog=1
RebootMode=1
BitmapFile=netfx.bmp
CustomTextPrefix=Custom
UninstallWarning=1
ControlMSIService=1
UILanguage=0

The big clue here is "x64" so the version I downloaded is not the 32
bit version. You can try executing the install.exe but it will issue
the following error message "Install.exe is not a vaild Win32
application". Back to the Microsoft website for the 32 bit version.
