The short answer is that it will be a cold day in hell before anybody has a
standard vector file format for use via the web that has not been crippled
by corporate pigs that refuse to even work in good faith with organizations
such as the W3C.

Dominant vendors such as Adobe, Microsoft, and Autodesk for example bought
and paid for seats on the W3C committee that has been working on developing
such a standard for vector file formats that can be used with Internet
protocols and which requires no patents or licensing.

Adobe and Microsoft had developed their own respective (lame) vector file
formats before the W3C got involved and attempted to establish SVG (Scalable
Vector Graphics) as a standard using the best of what Adobe and Microsoft
were working to develop.

Autodesk is a completly different story however as they have the longest
history in vector file formats (AutoCAD). Unless one has been involved with
CAD for any reasonable period of time however they would not know or
understand that Autodesk is managed by the slimiest corporate pigs the human
race has ever produced and has not and will likely never support a
standardized vector file format that can be used on the web without patent
and licensing restrictions.

Autodesk has sold over 27 releases of AutoCAD since the Internet was
commercialized (National Science Foundation, 1991) and in all that time the
use of AutoCAD has been crippled to disallow the use and support of
functional implementations such as hyperlinking and other Internet
protocols.

NIST (National Institute of Science and Technology) recently released a
report revealing that the US construction industry is operating at an annual
loss of over $15 billion due to the subversive corruption of Information
Technology in the construction industry.

Vector file formats are like oil. There are better technologies that have
been invented but as long as there are a few companies managed by greedy
corporate pigs that can control the world's so-called 'free markets' a
vector file format that can allow the greedy corporate pigs to make money
without causing the rest of us to be subjected to death and destruction is
not going to be available any time soon..

So don't hold your breath.
