Hi,

I'm writing an application in English and running it on a German copy
of Windows XP with a German copy .NET 1.1. When an unhandled .NET
framework exception occurs (eg a security exception, or a
SQLException) I catch it and display it. These are not exceptions I am
raising - they are being raised by the framework itself.

The messages are appearing in English rather than German though.

Any ideas why this happens?

Thanks,

Neil

Hello Neil,
Could you please provide more information on the environment?

- Did you install .NET 1.1 German "Core Redistutable package" or German
langpack? If only the core redist is installed, all exeption strings are
expected in English.

- Is the OS a pure German XP or MUI OS? If it's an MUI OS, you'll need to
select the language in "Language used in menus and dialogs" in Regional and
Language options in Control Panel.

- Also if you could provide the exception strings that you saw, it would be
helpful as well.

thanks,

Kanako,

Thank you for the reply.

I didn't realise there was a language pack, but thank you for pointing
this out. I'll try installing that and seeing what happens.

Kanako,

I installed the language pack and it works fine. Do you know if there
is a combined download which includes both the framework and the
language pack?

Thanks,

Neil

Hi Neil,
On Windows Update there is a combined installer for both .NET Framework and
Langpack, but if it's for redistribution with your app, you'd need to obtain
them separately. Hope it helps.
