I know this is way off beam, but you guys here are such a knowledgeable
bunch that I just hope someone has got a quick answer.

Whenever I start my machine, ZoneAlarm says that "OTi Content Service" is
trying to act as a server. I always click Deny, and nothing odd happens, but
I have no idea what it is or where it comes from.

The file is UStorSrv.exe and is in my Windows\System32 directory.

Does anyone know what this is? Searching Google gives no results.

TIA

Charles

Charles -

I have no idea but you might want to try posting to the ZoneLabs forum:

http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs

hope you get it resolved!

I have got a bit more information.

The program is being started as a service, with the display name "UStorage
Server Service", if that means anything to anyone.

Yes, I have. Funnily enough, I had homed in on this after getting the same
symptom on a second m/c.

I have disabled the service and there have been no adverse side effects for
a week now, so that makes me a bit suspicious of this application.

Hi,

I too have recently started getting a ZA alert - "OTi Content Service try to act as a server" - when loading Windows.

I think I can move things on a little:

Have you installed a Easy Disk USB pen/flash drive recently?  It's part of the software for partitioning the drive and hiding data.

Permanently denying internet access to UStorSrv.exe will do harm, and it can be disabled via:
Administrative Tools -> Component Services -> Services (Local)
Scroll down to: UStorage Server Service and double click on the line.
Change "Startup Type": Disabled.
Click OK.
Close down Component Services and all other windows, and reboot.

I believe OTi = Off The Internet…

CORRECTION:

"Permanently denying internet access to UStorSrv.exe will do harm, "
should read
"Permanently denying internet access to UStorSrv.exe will do no harm,"

My apologies.

Hi,

I have experienced exactly the same ZA alert after using an Easy disk USB
storage device.

Running a Win2k SP4 with every hotfix known to man and woman, with Spybot
and Ad-Aware, Norton Corporate AV and ZA on my laptop this same
Ustorsrv.exe file still managed to appear.

Did not install any drivers but I did repartition the USB device to include
a secure partition using the utility provided on the USB drive.

Suggest if this is the cause, do not use the software permanently included
on the USB device.

Thanks for an informative post.
