Well, in v2 you'll be able to use List<byte> in a similar way. If
you're just appending though, MemoryStream is probably your best bet.

Sounds like you want to use a collection of bytes. In which case, you
could create a class that inherits from the CollectionBase class. If you
wish to use a collection, then use the .NetV2.0 collection, which
supports generics and iterators that will make your task easier.

Or, at a simpler level if you just wish to do some encoding you could
use System.Text.Encoding.(EncodingPattern) and the respective GetBytes
method.
