Hello,
I'm try to configure outlook express for the MSDN subscription and the link
does not work on how to configure it.

Step 2: Choose and configure your Newsgroup Client
The NNTP Newsreader link does not seem to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Schneider

You seem to have left out Step 1: "post your message to a newsgroup
pertaining to the configuration and use of Outlook Express".

For example, one with the words "outlook" and "express" in the name

I appreciate that you may be trying to use OE as a newsreader to access
this newsgroup, but even so...there are more appropriate forums for your
question.

When you do post your question to that more appropriate forum, you may
want to consider providing more details than what you've shared here.  For
example, what links are you talking about?  What are they exactly?  What
have you tried so far?  Why hasn't it worked?  That sort of thing.

First this question is specific for MSDN subscriptions also, not just Out
Look Express. I am already using the newsgroups (apparently). If I knew
where to post I would, and yes I looked. I'm not some idiot asking how to
configure my IPOD!

I did not post the link because they seem specific to my profile, but here
is one.

https://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/manage/default.aspx

Then under Managed Newsgroups. There is 2 steps.

If some one knows a better place to post, I will try it.

Thanks,
Schneider

For the record, when you post here, most of the people reading your post
will not have access to your "profile" (I'm assuming you're talking about
something related to your MSDN subscription).  This is a public newsgroup,
accessible by a wide variety of people, most of whom are not
Microsoft-paid, never mind MSDN support staff.

That URL doesn't look very specific to anyone's profile.  You do have to
login with your MSDN-subscribed Live account to access the link's content,
but that's a different matter.  The content there is a standard form;
other than some slight variation that might occur according to your exact
subscription, anyone who can access the page is likely to see the same
thing.

You also didn't post the link that's actually giving you problems, but by
combining your two posts, I was able to figure out which link you're
trying to click.

Unfortunately, I still don't understand what's giving you trouble.  Given
the context, the link you're trying to click doesn't appear to me that it
would take you anywhere other than a page that describes one or more NNTP
newsreaders.  What else did you expect from the link?  I agree that it
should work, but the fact that it doesn't work doesn't seem to me to be
something that should be an impediment to using the newsgroups (especially
if you've already settled on Outlook Express).

> Then under Managed Newsgroups. There is 2 steps.

It seems to me that that page,
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/aa974230.aspx, provides a
complete list of the managed newsgroups, as well as all the configuration
information you need for each newsgroup.  The "news:" link next to the
name of each newsgroup includes the Microsoft NNTP server that you can use
to access the newsgroup, as well as the newsgroup name.

Of course, you don't actually need to use Microsoft's news server.  I
access this newsgroup via my own ISP's news server, and it works fine.  In
either case, assuming you know how to set Outlook Express for a specific
news server and newsgroup, then all the information you need is on the
page at the link I provided above (and which you referenced in your posts).

My understanding is that as long as you've registered the correct "no
spam" email address with Microsoft, then when you post to one of the
managed newsgroups using that email address, Microsoft will respond to
your post as appropriate for your MSDN subscription.  Other than that, you
just use the newsgroups like you'd use any other newsgroup.

> If some one knows a better place to post, I will try it.

If the above does not clear things up for you, you may want to try
contacting MSDN product support directly.  For example, by using the
"Online Concierge Chat" link on your MSDN subscription management page.

Ok, had no idea what was there. Thought maybe there was more details. Also
my message headers say by "Outlook Epress".

This is the part I was trying to confirm. Would still like a more specific
details.

Hi Schneider,

Please refer to the following document on how to access Microsoft MSDN
newgroup using Outlook Express:

'Internet Explorer Newsgroup Setup Instructions'
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/newsgroups/howto.mspx

If you encounter the problem that the News(NNTP) Server is not available,
it is usually due to network issue. You can try to synchronize the
newsgroups you have subscribed later.

Hope this helps.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,
Linda Liu

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support

up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at

Linda, thats not my problem.

There are steps for MSDN subcribers which ensure that their questions are
answered with-in 2 days. I think you signature or something else needs to be
a specif way.

Please re-read my latest message.

I have no problems posting or reading news messages from Outlook Express.

Thanks,
Schneider

Hi Schneider,

Thank you for your prompt reply!

To ensure to get responses from Microsoft Support Engineer, the only thing
you need to do is to input your no-spam alias in the E-mail Address box
while configuring Outlook Express for Internet Newsgroups.

If you post with any other e-mail address, we cannot guarantee a response
from the community or a Microsoft Support Engineer within two business
days.

For more information, please refer to the following instructions:

If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
