hi,
I was haveing problems with zune software and went to zune user group, where
I was advised to use .net 2 clean-up utility. Well, of corse I didn't read
all the instructions, thought it was automatic (duh), anyway, after it
analized the net 2, i clicked repair, BIG mistake. a lot of my programs
won't work, tried to reinstall, please remove existing before install. Tried
to remove existing, no way.
anyway, i think i understand a little more about what happend. by doing the
repair, I think I disassociated the programs from .net 2, so, is their a way
i can reassociate the progs ? I tried to remove 1 prog and reinstall it but
same errors appear. Anyone know what I should do outside of a windows
reinstall. Oh, i'm using windows xp media center 5.
TIA

All things considered, William, you might just as well reinstall the OS and
start over. Your description of the problem, the solutions you tried, and
the results are kind of vague, which indicates to me that you are not likely
to be able to do a detailed analysis and repair of the various problems that
now exist. The nuclear option is likely to be easiest for you, and most
likely to succeed.

This is a classic case of "tar baby" syndrome, a common predicament caused
by taking some action without adequate preparation, and then responding to
the resulting problems with the same basic approach recursively, until the
situation is so entangled that a simple repair process is unlikely. It
happens to everyone at some point. Try to make sure it doesn't happen to you
again!

He can also try posting his question to a newsgroup "Windows" in the
description, as this is a .Net programming newsgroup. Maybe someone has the
exact same problem. Although I think Kevin is probably right. :-(
