I am needing a backup program as I have to wipe the hard drive it has way too
many problems. also I'm looking for help in reinstalling all the moicrosoft
stuff. I have Windows XP and small business, and it's a dell computer. I s
there a backup program within windows xp? or do I have to download one? I
tthink that's all for now.

Did you want to use this backup program from a .NET program you wrote?

As you're using XP, a Windows XP group would be best. Here are two:

microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support

When you post there, you should describe your problem(s) in as much detail
as possible. Just saying "the hard drive it has way too
many problems" doesn't tell anybody much.

Exactly what kind(s) of problems are you having that lead you to suspect
your hard drive?

You're in the wrong NG (not sure which one is relevant without looking) but
I don't know what you mean by the term "problems" anyway. If something's
wrong with Windows itself for instance then how do you propose to restore
your backup without re-creating the same problems all over again (or worse).
Or perhaps some piece of hardware besides your harddrive is flaky. If it's
really the harrdrive itself however and this is not always easy to know then
you can Google for "XP backup". This is MSFT's which should already be on
your machine under "Start Menu | All Program | Accessories | System Tools |
Backup". I've never used it myself however since the one that used to be on
Win2000 was terrible (maybe it's changed though). I personally rely on a
commercial package called "Acronis True Image" but others also exist of
course. This one's a bargain at $49.99 and I wouldn't necessarily look for a
freebie where your harrdrive is concerned. It's saved me on numerous
occasions as it takes a mere 10-20 minutes to restore my entire drive.
