I have read a little about this. It is the new UI approach in Longhorn, but
will it be part of Windows or will it be part of dotnet X?

I want to take this kind of approach but I don't want to have a requirement
of my users to upgrade Windows to use my apps.

Peter,

I think you may be confusing your terms here. The Inductive UI term has been
around for many years and is implemented in MS products like Money. In the
main it espouses a flat look and feel (minimal pop ups) and action type
menus (usually implemented on the left hand side of the screen) that are
context sensitive.

I think what you are after is the Windows UX (user experience).

Probably what would be of most benefit is the new Office 12 look and feel
including the new ribbon bar.

I wasn't being perfectly clear was I?

What I meant was that it appears to be the suggested approach in Vista. I
got the impression somewhere (I don't recall where) that this approach is
"implemented" in Vista, meaning that app developers get some kind of API to
make using it easier. What I wanted to know was

A) Is this part of Vista?
B) Is this part of some dotnet release that will be available on Win XP as
well?

yes

It's a part of .NET 3.0 which is available now (beta)
