Hi there,
Can someone please clear up some confusion for me.

I have just installed VB.NET 2003. I downloaded SQL Server Express 2005, but
can't install it without the .NET 2.0 framework.

When I go to microsoft's web site, I'm unclear on what I actually need to
download...the redistributable pkg or the sdk.
Neither seem to be what I think I need...but I must be wrong.

Which do I need to run SQL Server Express 2005?

TIA,
Amber

I understand that you have no .net development tool installed. I would
recommend to download and install one of the visual xxxx express
editions (visual C# express for example), so you can actually do
something with the SQL Server Express. The redistributable alone will
allow you to install the server, but what will you do then?

HTH,
Stefan

As I said in my post...I have VB.NET 2003 installed...

For Visual Studio 2003, you need framework 1.1. I am not certain if SQL Server 2005 requires the 2.0 Framework , but, I would
bet it does. Just get the redistributable if all you want to do is run SQL Server 2005.
But, by getting the SDK too, you also have all the doc's you need.
Oh, and as another poster suggested, you might want to also download VB2005 Express Edition too. It's a free download (for the
next year) and will help you out when you decide to move to 2005.

Download .NET Framework 2.0 from the following:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd
-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en

- make sure that u are running Windows XP with SP2 or Windows Server
2003 with SP 1 and have Windows Installer 3.1
