To don't do dummy project u need to know .net :)
The better way to get a job to complete a couple of small project with robust
architecture and read a couple .net FW books.

first step in the job market are the more difficult...
don't go for small company, they look for a small number of do it all people
(requires a lot of experience).
try big companies, they are more likely to hire beginners. stress that:
- you've got the basic
- the will to work
- a good presentation / communication skills
- AND (very important) that you've got good learning skills.

Otherwise, what kind of weird question did they ask you?
