Hello,
I have a problem:
Until now i've only been programming with VB6 and now i want to change to
.net.
I've always been using the installation assistent to share my programms.

now i asked myself whether something like this also exists for .net.
i heard that .net programms won't work unless the .net framework is
installed. but unfortunately this framework has a size of 25mb. i just
imagine a guy who's using a modem and tries to install my programm... (well,
for my part i wouldnt download 25mb with a modem as 71 minutes for 1 download
is a hell lot of time...)

so my question is: is there also a framework for .net in a "slim" version
or is there an installation assistent which only installs the files which are
really needed?

Short Answer: No
Long Answer:
No, but:
1. there are 3rd parties provinding a ".NET linker" check out:
http://www.remotesoft.com/
2. you could install the .NET framework in the background, with stop and
restart download functionality with windows update.
3. there are computer magazines costing about 5$ having the .NET framework
on CD
4. so, never though of writing games? how do you redistribute DirectX? same
problem. This way of thinking is (unfortunately?) not valid... I know, I
mean I understand this problem, my elder sister don't have ADSL (still using
a modem) although she would be a good target for a program I'm writing,
anyway this kind of people (who have a modem) are missing a big part of the
internet (including, but not limited to) your software and it's likely,
whatever your effort, they would miss your software anyway!!!!

and if you want to share with a relative, buy a USB key, and bring them the
software on it!

i am sorry that i can't use .net since 90% of the people who download my
software will not like to install the framework. so i'd lose 90% of the
income aswell. however thank you for the quick help

If they're running Windows XP, they should already have the framework.  Some
others will as well b/c their other software requires it.
