Smart Client requirements

Can someone tell me if smart client development is bound to the compact
framework or is it possible to build smart client with the standard framework?

My understanding is that Smart client are for Online/Offline mode and can be
easily deployed (no-touch deployment). This is surely over simplified but
that's basically what I need to be able to do. Can it be done with a Windows
Forms as easily as with smart client?

Many thanks,

The definition varies by audience and what MS marketing was pushing at the
time the person first hear of Smart Clients.

I personally do not limit Smart Clients to only compact devices and have
just recently released a "Smart Client" that only works on the standard
framework.

For any document or proposals to management, you may want to quote directly
from Microsoft's "Smart Client Developer Center" at

http://msdn.microsoft.com/smartclient/understanding/definition/default.aspx

Hope this helps

Thanks Ed,

That is also what I understand from the technology. Smart Client is more
about the simple deployment and the offline capability then the compact
framework.
