Not Windows CE 5.0?

Plus do you know when the Windows CE QFE might be released?

Thanks,

No, CE 5.0 is not supported by the CF 3.5.

See here for more information to what is new/supported and what isn't:

It is very disappointing. I will try to find out the reasons why. Seems
upgrading to CE 6.0 is the only answer if you wish to make use of CF 3.5.

The download page of redistributable CF 3.5 tells another story:

Supported Device Operating Systems: Windows Mobile Software for Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 for PocketPC and Smartphone, Windows CE .NET 5.0 and higher.

Odd, considering that there's no such thing as "Windows CE .NET 5.0"...

;) Tell it Microsoft. A Google search on microsoft.com gives about 39 results for "windows ce .net 5.0" including a platform builder update...

Yea, I know.  Name changes don't always get through to everyone.  Maybe you
can ask on the .NET CF blog and the Microsoft guys can make clear what it is
that they actually support...  I don't have the URL in front of me, but it
shouldn't be too hard to find (either in the archives of this group or with
a search of the Microsoft or MSDN sites).

On http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2636831&SiteID=1 Ilya Tumanov (Microsoft) states:

Q: Which versions of the device OS are supported by NETCF 3.5?

A: Windows Mobile 2003 For Pocket PC (both first and second editions), Windows Mobile 5.0 (all flavors), Windows Mobile 6 (all flavors), Windows CE 4.2 (AKA Windows CE .Net), Windows CE 5.0, Windows Embedded CE 6. Windows CE is a customizable OS and must include NETCF V 3.5 dependencies in order to run NETCF V 3.5. Contact your device OEM to find out if particular OS has them.

So it seems even CE 4.2 is supported - great news.

There is conflicting information here. Is Compact Framework 3.5 supported on
Windows CE 5.0?

On the following thread from Microsoft we get:
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2636831&SiteID=1 "Yes"

earlier in this thread we get "No"

Which is correct?
TIA,

John,

I would consider Ilya's response on the forum to be definitive, but do note
this part of the reply:

"Windows CE is a customizable OS and must include NETCF V 3.5 dependencies
in order to run NETCF V 3.5. Contact your device OEM to find out if
particular OS has them."

In other words, it can depend on the particular device.

Hmmm, this is very confusing debate. Here is a list of devices that CF is
supported on and CE 5.0 is not listed:

Simon,

I agree it is confusing. I just trust Ilya, and I don't have a CE 5 device
to test this with. ;-)

I too trust Ilya and I too don't have a CE 5.0 device to test on. I think it
might be CE 5.0 Platform Builder (embedded) that is not supported. I think
this is worth contacting the CF team to clarify.

Simon,

Also the MSDN page references VS 2008, so deployment might be an issue.
Again, I can't really test it so if anybody else can, that would be great.

Ok, so it looks like it is supported but we would need it in a QFE
(embedded) to be of any use. I hope MS release a QFE for it for 5.0 and 6.0
soon.

Thanks all...

I heard from MS tech support that the January 08 QFE should include the CF
v3.5...
Cesar - 07 Feb 2008 23:15 GMT
Hello people. I want to know if at least CF 2.0 can be installed on a WM2003
for Smartphone. I have a Motorola MPX220 and it only can run CF 1.0
applications. Is there a CF 2.0 release for this version of OS or any tweak
to make possible the installation?? I wonder why this version of the
framework is available for Pocket PC but not for smartphones :-s.

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

César.
