During my quest I found numerous examples, all sort of the same, none
explicitly showing how to extract the transparent color - they all sort of
use pixel (0,0) as the transparent color - which may make sense I guess,
chances are pretty good that this pixel will be the transparent color.

transparency". Lots of other handy stuff there too.

Thanks Chris,
I already know all that stuff, but supposedly Serg posted actual code for
reading a transparent GIF...I'd prefer not to have to rely on the 0,0 hack.
Anyone know Serg's email?
