Hi guys,

I am doing winforms app using ver 2.0.

My boss is concerning that about 40% of our end-users wont be willing to
download and install Framework 2.0 to run the app.

I am looking into thinstall.com and remotesoft.com for tools to create
one-file installation for my app or something that would run with no
Framework 2.0 preinstalled.

My task is to prove that

a. we can run the app with no FW preinstalled if necessary
- or -
b. we can install FW silently (for CD for example) not showing that it is MS
product (my boss believes that end-users doesnt like to install anything
branded by MS - please dont ask me why he thinks that!! I totally disagree
:)).. Not sure about this one - could be problem with EULA... Am I right ?

Would appreciate any advice on that..

Cheers

Then he does not understand what .NET is. Counter his argument with
this: a Win32 application needs the Win32 runtime (ie Windows), so if
you write a Win32 app you're missing out on all of those Mac and Linux
users.

The .NET app *requires* the .NET framework, the preinstall is a
once-only and painless process. If your app is supplied on CD, then just
add the redistributable to the CD, if it is downloaded then you've no
option other than to provide the link to Microsoft. Any other solution
will have to include the runtime and framework libraries and so you do
not gain much compared to installing the framework separately.

Dunno about the EULA, but suggest to him that if your users don't like
Microsoft branded software they should remove Windows and try something
else.

Basically your boss needs some re-education.
