win xp, do not have shutdown button under start menu

All I see is the log off button. The shutdown/restart button has gone. Also
in Task Manager the shutdown drop down is greyed and cannot be used. How can
I fix this?? Thanks

The first suggestion that comes to mind is that the missing options might
indicate a hardware failure of some kind. Second, try inserting your XP CD
and do a repair install.

Third:
Try asking your question in a XP group, rather than in this .NET programming
group.

Select your language from the Tree View on the left, then scroll down to
Windows. In the Windows category, open Windows XP. There,
select an appropriate group.

You'll get a lot more interest and feedback in an XP group.
